Museums have always been searching for creative ways to interact with visitors. iBeacon and Physical Web technology helps museums to educate, guide and tell exciting stories through interactive experience. With beacons museums can finally collect valuable data to learn about their visitors, help them navigate and deliver them the right message at the right time and place.

Here are several inspiring examples that show how museums use Bleesk and other beacon apps to increase engagement with visitors:

Increase engagement with edutainment & scavenger hunt games

Silesian Museum created an ibeacon app to offer its visitors an edutainment experience. iBeacon technology is used to unravel cards with information based on the location of the visitor. Additionally, the app includes a scavenger hunt and loyalty campaign feature that allows to collect points for the number of discovered contents and collect rewards.

The new 6,000 square meter exhibition area offers an amazing opportunity for edutainment experience with use of iBeacon app. Beacons are hidden in different parts of the museum, once a person gets close to them, location-specific card appears on the visitor’s smartphone. Each card shows an image and description about a legend of the Silesia region. A visitor who finds a legend is not only able to learn about it, the app also grants points for each card. The goal is to find cards with all legends and everybody who does that is able to win amazing awards.

Help find a way with indoor navigation

The American Museum of Natural History is one of the largest in the world, so to plan your route could be a nightmare. Fortunately the Museum uses a beacon app that has turn-by-turn navigation feature built on. It triangulates visitors' location using hundreds of ibeacon devices spread out in the museum. The app shows the fastest route from point A to point B if you are in a hurry. It also shows the shortest route to restrooms, shops, cafes, and exits.

Self-guided tours and lower costs

A new feature on the Guggenheim Musem app now utilizes iBeacon technology to offer a site-specific experience for visitors at the museum. The app automatically plays audio, video, and displays descriptions related to the artworks that are in proximity of the visitor. This feature helps to create a seamless experience for visitors as they move through the museum. This new feature has proved to be an intuitive way to discover and access multimedia resources, information about exhibitions and collection artworks, audio commentary. What is more visitors can select a preferred language and filter their experience to focus on general exhibitions, content for kids and families, or accessibility-oriented guides. Museum is covered by more than one hundred Bluetooth Low Energy iBeacons, transmitting signals at ranges that vary from five to fifty feet.
